Tragedies
- Neilia Biden (née Hunter)
Biden married his first wife Neilia Hunter on August 27th, 1966. The college sweethearts went on to have three children, Beau, Hunter, and Naomi. Sadly, She was killed on December 18th, 1972 in an accident involving a tractor-trailer.
- Joseph Robinette “Beau” Biden
Joe’s eldest son, Beau followed his father’s footsteps with a career in public service, getting his law degree from Syracuse University, like his father, and eventually becoming a federal prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office.
Beau married wife Hallie in 2002, and the pair had two children, Natalie and Robert.
He died of glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, on May 30, 2015, at the age of 46. After his death, Joe bowed out of a potential 2016 presidential run
- Naomi Christina Biden
The only daughter of Joe and his first wife Neilia, Naomi — known as Amy — died on Dec. 18, 1972, in the car crash that also killed her mother and left her two brothers seriously injured. She was 13 months old
Baby grandson

Biden and his wife will move in with a pair of German shepherds, Champ and Major. The Bidens got Champ as a puppy in 2008, shortly before they moved into the vice president’s official residence at the Naval Observatory. The name had emotional significance for the then-vice president-elect
